BIDDEFORD, Maine – An early first-half goal by Alex Woodworth was the University of New England needed as it earned a 1-0 victory over Maine Maritime to open the season on Wednesday night at UNE Blue Storm Stadium.
 
In the 14th minute, Luke Gould was able to intercept an attempt by the Mariners to clear their defensive zone. His pass ahead bounced around at the top of the box and fell to Woodworth for the score. [Watch]
 
The Nor'easter defense was able to hold the Mariners off the board as Triston O'Hagan made three saves to pick up the clean sheet.
 
Shots favored UNE 10-7 overall and each team had three on target.
 
The Nor'easters return to action at home on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Thomas.
