Bison turn back Nor’easters, 15-7

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Hunter Ferreira led the way with four goals as Nichols College downed the University of New England, 15-7, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Jordan White paced the Nor'easter offense with four goals and an assist. Sam Palmisano, Alex York, and Jack Martin also scored for UNE.
 
The Bison scored the first six goals of the game and led 6-1 after a quarter. They extended that lead out to 8-2 before a 30-minute weather delay paused the action.
 
UNE came out strong from the break and after allowing another goal, scored the final three of the first half and cut the deficit to 9-5 at intermission. White scored twice down the stretch, both on man-up opportunities.
 
The Nor'easters were never able to draw closer as Colby Gillis scored twice on an extra-man chance to start the third quarter. White answered with his fourth of the day, before Brandon Coates returned the favor just 11 seconds later and the visitors took a 13-7 lead into the final quarter. The Bison added two more goals in the fourth.
 
Coates and Connor Santoni each had three goals for Nichols. Scott Ehrenberg was 10-for-14 on face-offs and grabbed a game-high seven ground balls. Cole Ventimiglia had three ground balls and three caused turnovers in the loss.
 
Griffin Jasin made 13 stops to earn the victory in net. Alex Thoms took the loss allowing eight goals and making one save prior to the weather delay. Kameron Bouvier had 10 stops for UNE the rest of the way.
 
The Nor'easters return to action at home on Saturday against Endicott at 1 p.m.
