HENNIKER, N.H. -- Jamal Allen drilled 10 three-pointers on 17 attempts to pace New England College in a 92-79 men's basketball decision versus the University of New England on Sunday afternoon (Mar. 7) at Bridges Gymnasium.

Supporting Allen's 30 points was Stephen Fama with 19 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Michael Tavilla hit all four of his long-range tries and added 14, while Calvin Cheek recorded 10 points and four steals.

The Pilgrims (3-3) made 17-of-39 from distance, a better percentage (43.6%) than from inside the arc (40%). NEC grabbed 15 offensive boards, more than double the visitors, and settled on a 46-39 margin overall.

For the Nor'easters (1-5), who made 45.5 percent (30-for-66) on field goals, Alex Kravchuk tossed in 25 points. Avery DeBrito tallied 15 points, six assists, and five rebounds, and Ric Castillo secured a game-high 10 caroms. Jordan Bagshaw and Blake Smith both canned three from downtown and ended with 11 points.

Smith began a 10-0 run midway through the 1st period with back-to-back triples, and UNE held a 27-15 advantage. The Pilgrims, however, finished the frame with 11 of the last 13 to take a 38-36 edge into the break.

NEC built the spread up to 10 (48-38) just a couple minutes into the 2nd, and eventually extended to its peak of 17 (65-48) with 11:56 left. The Nor'easters would not go away, though, reducing the deficit to five (70-65) at the 6:18 mark and four (80-76) as the clock turned to 2:17. A missed shot and two turnovers opened the door for the hosts to regain control, and four points by Fama before a three-pointer from Cheek did just that.
