UNE storms past Franklin Pierce, 9-4, to close season

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Three Nor'easters recorded multi-goal games as the University of New England downed Franklin Pierce, 9-4, in men's ice hockey action at the Harold Alfond Forum on Sunday afternoon.
 
UNE took a 2-0 lead by the 12:28 mark of the first period after goals by Austin Morgan and Geordan Buffoline just 57 seconds apart [Watch]. The goal by Buffoline was the first of his career and one of two on the day for the newcomer. [Watch]
 
Chris Stevenson cut the Ravens' deficit to one with a score midway through the opening period. Brent Hill and Buffoline followed with back-to-back goals as UNE opened the lead to 4-1. The teams traded goals to end the period as Ryan Gorbett pulled Franklin Pierce within two before Jake Fuss made it 5-2 with nine seconds remaining in the period.
 
The Nor'easters blew the game open with a three-goal second period. Hill added his second of the day to start the scoring. Alden Weller and Aaron Aragon followed with tallies 22 seconds apart as UNE led 8-2 entering the third. [Watch]
 
Aragon found the back of the net for his second early in the final frame. The Ravens added a power play goal by Conor Foley and a score by Alex O'Dowd down the stretch.
 
Nine Nor'easters tallied multi-point outings. Hill and Aragon each had a two goals and an assist, while Justin Dixson had three helpers to lead the way. Jeff Eppright and Connor Lind added two assists each. Foley had three points for the visitors.
 
Patrick Schena and Peter Ciccarelli split time in net for UNE and each made 11 saves; Schena recorded the win. Kyle Martin had 21 stops for the Ravens, and Ian Wallace added 12 saves in the third period.
 
UNE finishes its season at 4-0 overall, while Franklin Pierce dropped to 1-5.
