BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of Maine-Augusta held the University of New England to 20 second-half points on the way to a 68-56 men's basketball result on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 27) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Moose (2-0) sat on a 38-36 edge at the break, after trailing for the majority of the opening period. The Nor'easters (0-3) moved in front momentarily at 45-43, before a 20-6Â stretch by UMA made it a double digit spread for good (63-51) with 7:22 to go.
Maurice Hodge Jr. paced UMaine Augusta with 18 points. Elijah Smith, Eric Crawford, and Sam Martin had 10 points apiece. Nathaniel Henderson corralled a game-high 11 rebounds, while Martin (9) and Crawford (7) supported the Moose' 51-33 advantage on the boards.
The visitors shot 44 percent (25-for-57) from the field to overcome 18 turnovers. UNE only lost possession seven times, but connected on just 29.4 percent (20-for-68) of its shot attempts.
Ric Castillo and
Ryan Lin each tallied nine points for the Nor'easters, and combined for 15 caroms.
Alex Kravchuk went for eight points, five rebounds, and four steals, while
Jordan Bagshaw also netted eight.
Avery DeBrito registered seven points and seven assists, and
Mark Rella had six points.
The teams will retake the same court on Sunday (1 p.m.).
