BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Suffolk University never trailed in its first-ever Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball match, picking up an 85-74 decision against the University of New England on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Wednesday night (Dec. 1).

The Rams (5-1, 1-0 CCC) received 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and six assists, from Aidan Sullivan. Cole LeVangie canned all three of his attempts from long range, and only missed twice overall, on the way to 17 points off the bench. Nate Hale and John Gates went for 16 and 13 points, respectively, and William Rowe collected seven rebounds.

Suffolk made 30-of-60 field goals on the evening, and hit one more than half (12-for-23) from downtown.

The Nor'easters (1-8, 0-2 CCC) got game highs of 24 points and nine caroms out of Alex Kravchuk, who dropped in 10-of-17 shots. Ray Evans added 17 points with six rebounds, Anthony Senesomboth registered 12 points, and James DeCrisantis splashed nine points from behind the arc. Ric Castillo contributed eight boards to UNE's 36-34 edge on the glass.

Both squads came out firing, combining for 13 makes (including 8 treys) on the initial 20 shot attempts as the scoreboard displayed the only tie at 17-all -- just 5:23 into the game.

A triple by DeCrisantis with 7:06 left prior to halftime pulled the hosts to within three (30-27), but the Rams raced into the break with a 20-7 stretch that featured 11 from LeVangie. UNE cooled off to wind up making 38 percent (12-for-32) of its field goals in the period, and faced a 50-34 deficit.

The Suffolk margin peaked at 74-50 near the middle of the 2nd half. The Nor'easters chipped into the gap late, getting it down to 82-70 with 2:33 on the clock.

UNE heads for Nichols College on Saturday, and will then conclude the semester with a December 18 exhibtion at the University of Maine-Orono.
