GORHAM, Maine -- Jacobe Thomas put up 26 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor to pace the University of Southern Maine men's basketball team in a 92-75 result versus the University of New England at Hill Gymnasium on Tuesday night (Nov. 9).
The Huskies (1-1) connected at a 51.4 percent clip (36-for-70) on field goal attempts, and knocked down 15-of-37 from deep. Thomas accounted for six of those triples, and added eight rebounds. Trevor Ward contributed 18 points, and Cody Hawes dropped in 16 to go with eight boards, six assists, and four steals. Marcus Christopher secured 13 caroms, helping a 38-31 advantage in the category.
For the Nor'easters (0-2),
Sam McElliott registered 18 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Ric Castillo made 5-of-7 from the field for 12 points, and
Nick Donofrio tossed in eight points off the bench.
Southern Maine used a 10-0 spurt in less than two minutes to move ahead, 13-3. The 1st-half margin peaked at 36-20, but the UNE closed the period on an 11-5 run to get it back into single digits (44-35). Donofrio buried a pair of three-pointers in the middle.
Joey Ragosta hit a trey to make it even tighter at the beginning of the 2nd (44-38), however the Huskies moved the gap up to 20 (66-46) by the 11:00 mark.
The Nor'easters will be back at home on Saturday (7 p.m.) to face Plymouth State University.
