BIDDEFORD, Maine – Western New England University scored the final 10 points to turn a three-point deficit into a 24-17 victory over the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) football action at UNE Blue Storm Stadium on Saturday.

Carlos Martin Nieto found Adam Razza a cross through the middle for a 63-yard touchdown on the Golden Bears' (6-3, 4-1 CCC) first play from scrimmage. After the extra point, the visitors led 7-0 just 2:23 into play. The score remained into the second quarter after a missed field goal by WNE.

The Nor'easter (3-5, 1-4 CCC) offense struggled early on but were able to tie the score 7-7 with 4:10 to play in the second quarter. Dylan Ibbitson intercepted Nieto on the WNE 21-yard line to setup the drive. Jarrett Henault kept the drive alive with an 18-yard rush on fourth-and-17 to put UNE at the 10-yard line. A holding penalty pushed the Nor'easters back, but two plays later Henault found Shane LaPorte for a touchdown.

Dillon Kohl sparked the Golden Bears' next drive with a 44-yard rush down to the UNE 11-yard line. Steven Fedorchak hauled in a six-yard touchdown two plays later to finish a quick drive and put Western New England ahead 14-7 heading into the break.

UNE grabbed momentum back to start the second half. Cameron Crocker ripped the ball from Kohl to give the Nor'easters the ball in Golden Bear territory. Abe Ruelas Villasenor banked in a 30-yard field goal to close the gap to 14-10 at the 10:17 mark of the quarter.

The Nor'easters were able to recover the ensuing onside kick and setup their drive starting in WNE territory. UNE ran the ball on all but once on its seven-play scoring drive. Jaymeson Maheux had the Nor'easters longest run of the day for 26 yards to get the hosts down to the four. Jack Mahoney was able to scamper in to give UNE its first lead of the afternoon at 17-14 with 7:40 to play in the third.

Western New England was stopped near the goal line as the UNE defense held them out of the end zone after a first-and-goal from the six-yard line. Andrew Havens tied the game 17-17 with a 21-yard field goal.

Omari Lewis intercepted Henault on the first UNE drive of the fourth quarter and setup the Golden Bears in opposing territory. Nieto completed a long pass to Matt Eylander and had a 14-yard rush for himself as WNE drive down to the one. Ian Britt burst through the middle to put the visitors in front for good at 24-17 with 10:52 remaining.

The Nor'easters next drive stalled on fourth down on the WNE 38-yard line. After a punt by the Golden Bears, an interception by Jameson Gill on a fourth down ended any chance for UNE.

Nieto threw for 194 yards and two scores. Most of the yards went to Razza who finished with six catches for 138 yards. Kohl (50) and Britt (47) led the rushing attack for WNE. Henault, once again, led UNE in rushing with 78 yards on 21 attempts. He was 10-for-21 for 45 yards and a TD through the air. Mahoney finished with 49 rushing yards and a score.

Crocker was stellar on defense for the Nor'easters with eight tackles (1.5 for loss), a half sack, forced fumble and two recoveries. Trey Snowden had seven tackles and broke up a pass. Keegan Stanton-Meas finished with five stops, one sack, and a forced fumble.

Jake Chiasson had 12 tackles and a sack to lead WNE. Richie Watson finished with seven stops, including a sack.
