Bowdoin bests UNE, 77-50

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Bowdoin College closed the 1st half on a 22-6 run to go up by 20, on the way to a 77-50 outcome versus the University of New England in men's basketball action at Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum on Tuesday night (Nov. 23).

The Polar Bears received points from four players in the stretch, led by Michael Simonds with seven. Bowdoin connected at a 55 percent clip (17-for-31) in the opening 20 minutes, while the Nor'easters made just 25 percent of their looks (8-of-32).

Simonds ended with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Cole Hanin, Taiga Kagitomi, and James McGowan put up 14, 13, and 11 points, respectively. Xander Werkman shared the game-high of 10 boards with Simonds, helping the Polar Bears (4-1) to a commanding 50-28 rebounding margin.

For UNE (1-6), Ray Evans totaled 11 points and four steals. Sam McElliott tossed in nine points, and Anthony Senesombath had seven. Drake Gavin also scored seven, to go with five caroms and three steals. Ric Castillo collected a team-best six rebounds.

The Nor'easters resume play on Sunday (3 p.m.) when Bates College comes to town for UNE's final non-league outing.
