EAST BOSTON, Mass. – Jesse Kennedy scored the game-winner 1:02 into overtime to complete the comeback for Suffolk University in a 3-2 victory over the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's hockey action on Friday night in Boston.
The Rams found themselves down 2-0 heading into the third period, despite holding a 26-10 advantage in shots.
Piper Desorcie connected on a power play goal for the Nor'easters with help from
Meghan Hamilton and
Eliana Kane early in the second.
Keely Kasputis added an unassisted tally to build the UNE lead.
Madison Ricard trimmed the deficit in half for Suffolk 6:04 into the final period. The Rams took advantage of a power play opportunity late in the third as Shana Cote knotted the game 2-2 with 1:22 left in regulation. Madison Duff and Sofia Scilipoti assisted on the tying goal.
Maddy Burton found Kennedy for the winner in overtime.
The Rams outshot the Nor'easters 48-18 on the night.
Kaleigh Laurendeau made 45 saves in the loss. Julia McLellan made eight saves over the first two periods for Suffolk. Hanna Gordon closed out the game and earned the victory in net with eight stops in the third period and overtime.
The teams finish their weekend series tomorrow afternoon at the Harold Alfond Forum in Biddeford, Maine at 4 p.m.
