BIDDEFORD, Maine Austin Morgan scored just 11 seconds into the night as #12 University of New England rolled to an 8-3 victory over Suffolk University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey action on Friday at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Morgan, who finished with two goals and two assists, won the opening faceoff back to Liam Darcy who fed it to Alexander Vukota in the UNE defensive end. Vukota passed it far ahead to Morgan at the blue line and the senior captain found the back of the net near the left post. [Watch]

The goal was the second-fastest to open a game in UNE history and 10th-fastest in NCAA Division III history. Brady Fleurent '19 is tied for the NCAA record, scoring only five seconds into a game against Curry in 2018.

The excitement didn't last long for the Nor'easters as Devin Lowe put back a rebound for Suffolk only 33 seconds later to tie the score. Less than two minutes later, Aaron Aragon put the Nor'easters back in front for good as he stuffed in a feed in front from Daniel Winslow [Watch]. Ryan Kuzmich added his first career goal later in the period to give UNE a 3-1 lead after one. [Watch]

A power play goal by Collin Heinold and another tally by Morgan extended the Nor'easter advantage to 5-1 at the second intermission.

Jake Fuss gave UNE a 6-1 lead with backhand shot to the top-right corner in the opening minute of the third period [Watch]. He was one of four Nor'easters with a multi-point night, adding three assists.

The Rams closed the gap to 6-3 with 2:28 left to play on scores by Danil Ovchinnikov and Shawn Montgomery. Kuzmich and Jamey Zanca added goals in the closing minutes for the Nor'easters as they improved to 3-1-1 overall and in conference play. Suffolk fell to 1-3-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the league.

Liam Darcy recorded two assists and Kuzmich had a helper to go with his two goals.

Billy Girard IV made 22 stops to earn the victory in net. Cal Wilcox let in the first five goals and made 15 saves for the Rams. Jarret Bovarnick had 16 stops and three goals allowed.

The teams return to the ice tomorrow night at Emmons Horrigan O'Neil Rink in Charlestown. Mass. at 7 p.m.
