#7 Tufts sets back Nor'easters, 60-42

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Molly Ryan, Angela Alibrandi, and Samantha Sousa accounted for all of the scoring during a 23-6 first-half run that powered No.7 Tufts University over the University of New England, 60-42, in women's basketball action Tuesday night (Nov. 16) at Court Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alffond Forum.

The Jumbos (3-0) started to make their move with just over four minutes left in the 1st quarter, leading 8-7. Ryan had all her 10 points in the stretch as the cushion swelled to 21-7 before the end of the period, and Alibrandi put in a quick eight to bump the spread to 31-13 with 3:44 remaining in the 2nd.

Tufts tallied 12 in-a-row to work the gap as high as 32 (54-22) in the latter stages of the 3rd, shooting 52 percent from the field through 30 minutes.

Ryan totaled 14 points, five assists, and three steals for the visitors. Alibrandi matched that scoring output (14) off the bench, while Maggie Russell posted nine points and a game-best 13 rebounds. Sousa added seven points for the Jumbos, who scored 24 points off 21 UNE turnovers and held a 40-34 edge in the rebounding department.

For the Nor'easters (0-4), Kaylee Beyor and Jordyn Franzen each went for 11 points and seven boards. Beyor also had three blocks. Abby Cavallaro tossed in eight points and had four steals, and Sierra Tartre scored eight, as well.

UNE will entertain Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday (5:30 p.m.).
