BRISTOL, R.I. – Behind three second-half goals, Roger Williams University defeated the University of New England, 3-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer action at Bayside Field on Saturday afternoon.
Lizzie Frattaroli was one-on-one with Hawks' goalkeeper Morgan McCutcheon and put a shot off her hands into the left corner to put the Nor'easters (7-4-1, 3-1-0 CCC) ahead in the 19th minute.
The lead would stand until two quick goals by Roger Williams (9-4-0, 3-1-0 CCC) gave the hosts a 2-1 advantage in the 52nd minute. A shot by Leah Yucius on the right side of the box defected in off a UNE defender for the first goal. Just over two minutes later, Raffaella Brunetti chipped a pass into the box to Rachel Oster, who scored to give the Hawks the edge for good. Sabrina Sherman added a goal off her own rebound in the 71st minute.
Roger Williams out-shot UNE 15-7 overall and 10-4 on goal.
Sydney Gillingham had seven saves in the loss. McCutchon had three stops for the Hawks.
UNE returns to action at home on Tuesday night against Suffolk at 6:30 p.m.
