UNE blanks Salve Regina in CCC Quarterfinals, 3-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – Second-seeded University of New England recorded its 12th shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over #7 Salve Regina in the 2021 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Soccer Championship Quarterfinals on a rainy Saturday afternoon at UNE Blue Storm Stadium.
 
The Nor'easters (12-5-1) advance to the semifinal round for the third consecutive season and will host #6 Roger Williams on Wednesday at 7 p.m. [Interactive Bracket]
 
Tori Keyes started the scoring for UNE as she knocked in a rebound off a shot by Morgan Diefenbach in the 6th minute [Watch]. The score remained 1-0 until halftime.
 
UNE was able to put the game out of reach with two goals in the span of a minute early in the second half. Erica Dimmick (CCC 2nd Team) headed in a corner kick off the foot of Marie Hoehner in the 56th minute [Watch]. Lizzie Frattaroli scored from close range to the far post just 60 seconds later. Sydney Gillingham (CCC 2nd Team) made two saves in the victory, earning her ninth clean sheet of the year -- the second-most in a single season in team history. Georgia Drake had nine saves for Salve Regina, which finishes the year at 6-12-1 overall.
 
Roger Williams advanced to Wednesday's semifinal by upsetting #3 Western New England, 2-1. The Hawks rallied to defeat the Nor'easters by a score of 3-1 in their matchup in Rhode Island earlier this year.
