Lauren Davenport and
Viktoria Pavlyuk combined for 29 kills and a hitting percentage of .347 as the University of New England wrapped the regular season with a 3-0 triumph (25-19, 25-18, 25-21) over Nichols College on Friday evening (Oct. 29) at the NC Athletic Center.
The win lifts the Nor'easters (9-15, 2-7 CCC) into the league tournament as the No.8 seed. The Bison conclude the year at 5-12 overall, 1-8 in CCC dates.
Davenport put down a match-best 16 kills and Pavlyuk tallied 13, many off the 35 assists by
Addie Miller.
Stephanie Erickson contributed 10 points to the UNE effort, which included six kills and a solo block.
Paige Weatherbee had 14 defensive digs, and Davenport notched eight more.
Morgan Lynch totaled eight digs, as well, while dropping down four aces.
Shiloh Osmer tacked on three service winners.
For Nichols, Jayleen Fegan went for 12 kills and 11 digs. Lindsey Rugg had 16 assists, and Liz Diorio registered 18 digs.
The visitors led the entire way in the 1st set, but saw a 12-5 cushion reduced to one (14-13) before pulling away. The Nor'easters broke away from a 13-all moment in the 2nd with 12 of the last 17 points, and closed the 3rd with a 6-2 run to finish the contest.
The official pairings for the quarterfinal round of the upcoming championship will be annouced on Saturday.
