BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Madison Lee, Nicole Karabaich, and Brighton Solheim each registered double digits in kills as Salve Regina University chalked up a 3-0 decision (25-21, 25-18, 25-22) versus the University of New England on Saturday evening (Oct. 23) on Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
Lee put up 15 kills and a match-best 14 digs for the Seahawks (13-8, 5-2 CCC), while Karabaich and Solheim went for 14 and 11 kills, respectively. Katelyn O'Brien tallied 36 assists, Kate Murphy contributed 10 digs, and Morgan Lee had three service aces.
Viktoria Pavlyuk led the Nor'easters (8-14, 1-6 CCC) with 15 kills, and topped all players with a .400 attack percentage.
Stephanie Erickson added five kills, two aces, and a solo block.
Mia Martel was active on the front line with a hand in five of the team's other six blocks.
Addie Miller recorded 18 assists over the last two sets, while
Sara Authier framed six in the opening session. Defensively,
Paige Weatherbee picked up 11 digs and
Shiloh Osmer had eight more.
Leading 20-12 in the 1st set, Salve Regina saw six in-a-row go for UNE. However, a pair of kills by Ma.Lee in the next three points were enough for the visitors to hold on. SRU started the 2nd with six of the initial seven, and another 6-1 run upped the margin to 19-11 -- Ma.Lee capped that spurt with a couple kills, as well.
The hosts didn't go easily in the 3rd, though, as there were nine ties and five lead-changes. The Seahawks had an early 9-5 edge, but a kill from
Mary Haley made it 19-17 in favor of the Nor'easters. The teams traded blows and it was knotted up at 21-all, before back-to-back kills by Karabaich and then two kills out of Solheim (around a service error) closed out the result. Solheim notched more than half of her winners (6) in the set.
UNE enters the final week of the regular season with two road dates remaining -- the first at Gordon College (4-3 CCC) on Wednesday.
