Endicott shuts down UNE, 3-0, in key CCC matchup

BEVERLY, Mass. – Lindsey Papa scored in the sixth minute to help lift Endicott College over the University of New England 3-0 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer matchup on Wednesday evening.
 
The Gulls (8-3-2, 6-1-0 CCC) and Nor'easters (9-4-1, 5-2-0) entered the day tied atop the CCC standings with two games remaining.
 
Following the early goal, UNE had five quick shots and two corner kicks but were unable to pull even. Grace Jewett put in the rebound off a shot by Julia Matus in the 38th minute as the Gulls led 2-0 at the break.
 
Morgan Hubert made a long run down the sideline and crossed it into Madeline Mucher who finished for the Gulls' final goal in the 72nd minute.
 
Endicott managed 17 attempts to just 11 for the Nor'easters, and had eight on target compared to three for UNE. Rosalina Caliri posted three saves in the shutout victory. Sydney Gillingham had five stops in defeat.
 
UNE welcomes Nichols to Hazard Field for Senior Day on Saturday at 12 p.m.
