BIDDEFORD, Maine --
Viktoria Pavlyuk and
Lauren Davenport combined for 32 kills to guide the University of New England women's volleyball squad past Bridgewater State University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-17), on Saturday evening (Oct. 2) at the newly-named Coach Beaudry's Court inside the Harold Alfond Forum.
Pavlyuk put down a personal-best 17 kills and dropped in three aces. Davenport's 15 kills were also accompanied by three service aces, and
Addie Miller had three more aces to go with her 37 assists. The attack -- which operated at a season-best .273 clip --Â received support from
Stephanie Erickson and
Adryona Miller with six and five kills, respectively.
Defensively, Paige Wetherbee topped all players with 14 digs for the Nor'easters (6-8), who limited the Bears (4-4) to a hitting percentage of just .060 in the match.
For Bridgewater State, Becca Whalen had eight kills and Savannah Quintal put up 12 assists. Victoria Caiano recorded 10 digs.
The teams traded 4-0 runs in the latter portion of the 1st set, but UNE's came first an established a lead too large (19-13) to overcome. Pavlyuk notched five winners and an ace during a 13-4 spurt that blew things open in the middle of the 2nd frame.
The Nor'easters faced their largest deficit of the day (9-6) early in the 3rd, however quickly erased it with an 8-1 stretch. BSU was able to draw within two on a few occasions in the moments that followed, but the last six points went to UNE (3 kills by Pavlyuk).
UNE will get ready to entertain Western New England University in a Commonwealth Coast Conference showdown on Tuesday (7 p.m.).
