Nor’easters blank Curry, 2-0, with second-half goals

MILTON, Mass. 
– The University of New England used a pair of goals after halftime to register a 2-0 victory over Curry College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at Katz Field on Saturday evening.
 
After a scoreless first period, Morgan Diefenbach finished a goal off an assist from Tori Keyes to put the Nor'easters in front in the 59th minute. The Nor'easters back line was able to withstand some pressure from Curry to maintain the clean sheet and Meredith Kennedy headed home a corner kick off the foot of Bella Reil to cement the victory as time expired.
 
UNE improves to 9-4-1 overall and sits in a tie atop the CCC table at 5-1 with just three game to play. Curry is now 7-8 and 1-5 in conference action.
 
Sydney Gillingham, with help from the UNE defensive, notched her fifth shutout of the season with two saves. Stella Schofield had four stops four the Colonels. Curry outshot the Nor'easters, 15-12, but attempts on goal favored UNE by a 6-2 margin.
 
The Nor'easters visit 5-1 Endicott in a key CCC battle on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
