Erica Dimmick and
Morgan Diefenbach each headed in a goal as the University of New England got back on track with a 2-0 victory over Suffolk in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's soccer matchup on Tuesday evening in Biddeford.
Dimmick knocked in the Nor'easters' (8-4-1, 4-1-0 CCC) first goal of the night off a corner kick from
Marie Hoehner in the 26th minute
. A foul near the end line just outside the box led to free kick by
Bella Reil that was headed home by Diefenbach with 2:31 left to play.
Chances were fairly even on both sides with UNE holding a slim 14-12 advantage on shots and 10-6 on goal. Each team had five shots in the second half.
Sydney Gillingham was stellar in goal and made six saves to earn her fifth shutout of the season. Allison Rodrigues had eight saves in the loss for the Rams (8-4-0, 2-3-0 CCC).
The Nor'easters return to action on Saturday on the road at Curry at 5 p.m.
