BIDDEFORD, Maine -- University of New England men's ice hockey forward
Ryan Bloom has been named to the 2019-20 Academic All-District® Division III Men's At-Large District 1 First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as it was announced on Thursday (May 21).
The award highlights the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and in the classroom.
First Team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Academic All-America® ballot, with those teams announced in June.
It marks the third such distinction for Bloom in as many nominations. The 2019-20 season including his third American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America East pick (2nd Team) and a fourth Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) all-league notation (third 1st Team). The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Player of the Year was also a finalist for the Division III Player of the Year Award. The Nor'easter captain topped the nation's fourth-best scoring offense (4.85 goals/game) with 14 goals, 22 assists, and 36 points over 26 outings. Bloom was additionally named as the 2019-20 CCC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and UNE's Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience and will be attending Tufts University School of Medicine in the near future to begin towards a doctorate.

The CoSIDA Men's At-Large honors include student-athletes from a possible 12 sports, which are grouped together due to smaller sponsorship numbers across the national landscape.
