Nor’easters remain unbeaten with 24-10 victory over Southern Maine

BIDDEFORD, Maine – After falling behind to start the second quarter, the University of New England men's lacrosse team rolled past the University of Southern Maine, 24-10, in non-conference action at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Garett Bozek had eight points on five goals and three assists. He became the sixth player in program history to reach the 100-goal milestone for his career. Noah Luccini added four goals and two assists. Alex York tallied three goals and two helpers.
 
The teams traded leads in the opening quarter before back-to-back goals by Zach Bossi and Luccini put the Nor'easters (4-0) ahead 6-4. The Huskies (0-1) answered with scores by Colin Kinney and Miqueias Biasuz to tie the game after a quarter. Joe Cullinan put Southern Maine in front 7-6 early in the second.
 
UNE would take control from there, as it outscored the Huskies 18-3 the rest of the way. Luccini and Bozek each scored twice in the frame to help the Nor'easters to a 12-7 lead at halftime. York had two goals in the third, while Collin Morrow tallied his second of the game. Colin Kinney added his third for the Huskies who trailed 19-9 through three quarters.
 
Five different Nor'easters scored in the final 15 minutes, including the first career goal by Gavin Tanis.
 
Shots favored UNE by a wide margin at 66-28 overall and 44-21 on goal. Sam MacKenzie picked up the victory in net with seven saves and four goals allowed over the final three quarters. Alex Bonin (9) and Ian Cooke (11) combined for 20 stops for the Huskies.
 
Adam Race picked up nine ground balls to go with four caused turnovers. Jared Duffy won 12 faceoffs and grabbed nine ground balls.
 
The Nor'easters return to action at home on Saturday against MIT at 1 p.m.
