BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's lacrosse team poured it on the for the second-straight game to start the season with a 21-9 victory over Wheaton at UNE Blue Bolt Field on Saturday afternoon.
Alex York scored three of his career-high five goals in the first quarter as UNE jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
Devon Jackson also added the first two tallies of his Nor'easters career in the opening 15 minutes. He finished with three goals.
UNE extended its advantage out to 12-2 with 4:53 to play until halftime.
Collin Morrow scored twice in the period, including a man-up goal. Mike Abramo put in two late scores for the Lyons to trim the deficit to 12-4 at the break.
Each team scored three times in the third period. The Nor'easters outscored Wheaton 6-2 in the final quarter.
Alden Balboni scored the first of his career to start the scoring. York added a late assist on a goal by
Noah Luccini to record his career-best eight point of the day.
Garett Bozek finished with six points on four goals and two assists.
Zach Bossi and Morrow each had two goals and an assist.
UNE was 6-for-9 on extra man opportunities to just 1-for-3 for Wheaton. The Lyons won 24 of 34 face-offs, led by Troy Sliney who was 23-for-27 on the day.
Adam Race had eight ground balls and caused turnovers for the Nor'easters.
Sam MacKenzie stopped 10 shots to earn the win between the pipes. Chandler Miller had 14 saves in the loss.
The Nor'easters return to action on Saturday, Feb. 29 at home against Plymouth State at 12 p.m.
