Fighting Scots hold down UNE, 83-67

Statistics

WENHAM, Mass. -- Eric Demers and Garrett Sattazahn went for 28 and 25 points, respectively, as Gordon College took an 83-67 decision from the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball action Wednesday night (Feb. 19) at the Bennett Center.

The result complicates the tie-breaking scenarios for Saturday's final day of the regular-season, as now both the Fighting Scots (12-12) and Nor'easters (13-11) settle at 7-8 in CCC matches. UNE hosts Roger Williams (6-9 CCC) for a 3 p.m. tip-off, the same time Wentworth (8-7 CCC) visits Salve Regina (7-8 CCC) -- only four of these squads continue into the seven-team league championship.

Demers and Sattazahn paired to knock down 20-of-37 from the floor, helping Gordon operate at a 47 percent clip. Parker Omslaer tallied 10 points and a game-best 12 rebounds.

For the visitors, Avery DeBrito notched 16 points, 10 boards, and seven assists. Siddiq Canty also produced 16 points, and Alex Kravchuk had 14. Ric Castillo shared the team-high of 10 rebounds, and UNE had a slim 46-45 edge on the glass. However, the Nor'easters only connected for 30 percent of their shots inside the arc, where they were out-scored by 20 points.

UNE led 19-18 midway through the opening stanza but then went four minutes without scoring. The Scots swung the advantage up to 11 and took a 43-33 cushion into the break.

Demers registered nine straight for his side as the margin swelled to 23 (66-43) with 13:50 left in the 2nd half. The Nor'easters could only get back as close as 73-63 at the 4:10 mark.
