Nichols tops UNE, 92-79

DUDLEY, Mass. -- DeAnte Bruton tallied 20 of his 26 points before halftime as Nichols College built a 12-point cushion, on the way to a 92-79 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball result against the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1).

The Bison (12-8, 7-4 CCC) led start-to-finish and used a 9-0 spurt before the midway mark of the 1st period to gain some separation (24-14). The difference was 51-39 at the break and reached 19 (81-62) before the Nor'easters closed to within eight down the stretch.

Bruton was supported by 19 points and 15 rebounds out of Matt Morrow, and a double-double of 18 points and 11 boards from Jawkwon Spencer. Jason O'Regan chipped in with 11 points off the bench. Nichols finished with a 50-38 advantage on the glass.

For UNE (11-9, 5-6 CCC), Siddiq Canty went for 18 points and Alex Kravchuk notched 13 more. Avery DeBrito registered 10 points, nine caroms, and six assists. Ray Evans and Jordan Bagshaw added 11 and eight points, respectively.

The Nor'easters return home to entertain league-leading Endicott College (9-2 CCC) on Wednesday (7:30 p.m.).
