Sadie Nelson poured in a season-best 26 points as the University of New England registered a 60-47 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball win over Salve Regina University on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 25) at Rodgers Rec. Center.
The Nor'easters (14-4, 8-1 CCC) got 9-of-17 field-goal accuracy out of Nelson, who shared the game-high of nine rebounds.
Jocelyn Chaput was the only other player in double figures with 12 points, and
Ashley Coneys added seven points with eight boards.
Sierra Tartre also collected nine rebounds to help her side grab a 48-40 advantage off the window.
UNE went on a 13-2 run to gain the edge in the 1st quarter (15-7), and then scored the last 10 of the opening half to establish a 38-20 cushion. Nelson tallied seven in the closing stretch. The gap grew to as much as 21 (46-25) in the middle of the 3rd.
For the Seahawks (2-15, 2-7 CCC), Torrie Scorpio notched 13 points, six boards, and five assists. Mary Rorke also recorded 13 points for the hosts, who could only shoot 29 percent from the floor against the Nor'easter defense.
UNE returns home to face Wentworth on Tuesday (5:30 p.m.).
