QUINCY, Mass. -- The University of New England women's volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory (25-20, 25-21, 26-24) over Eastern Nazarene College on Friday evening (Sep. 6) at the Lahue PE Center.
Katie Flynn paced the Nor'easters (3-1) with 10 kills, while eight more can from
Molly Camelo and seven apiece from
Paige Simoneau and
Stephanie Erickson.
Sydney Christiansen chalked up 35 assists to go with 14 digs, and
Katie Marsh recorded 13 digs along with a match-high four service aces.
In the 2nd set, Marsh also picked up her 1,000th career dig, becoming just the sixth UNE player in over 23 seasons to reach the milestone.
After three lead-changes early in the 1st frame, the Nor'easters separated from the fifth tie at 18-all with five unanswered points to gain control of the set. The visitors were up nearly the entire way in the middle session, and raced out to an 8-2 cushion in the 3rd. The Lions countered with an 8-1 stretch to get back in it, and three straight points gave the hosts a 22-20 advantage. Back-to-back kills from
Micaela McNamara leveled the score, and a winner by Flynn established UNE with a 24-23 edge. The teams traded errors before Christiansen put down the deciding point.
For Eastern Nazarene (0-3), Ruth Aguilar totaled 15 kills and Samantha Caldwell notched as many assists. Amya Altman tallied 16 digs.
UNE will remain at ENC for a pair of matches on Saturday against Framingham State University (12 p.m.) and Regis College (2 p.m.).
