Polar Bears claim victory over Nor’easters, 3-0

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin College men's soccer team picked up a 3-0 victory over the University of New England to open the season on Wednesday night at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
 
The Polar Bears took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute as Drake Byrd blasted home a shot from the top right of the box. UNE had four attempts on goal in the opening half, but could not break through.
 
A free-kick off the foot of Alex Chaban found the head of Matt Uek to extend the advantage to 2-0 in the 50th minute. Brian Bae received a cross from Liam Houlgate in front to put in the final score in the 75th minute.
 
Bowdoin outshot the Nor'easters 15-8 overall and 8-2 in the second half. Chris Kingston stopped all six shots he faced for the visitors. Will Shearon (3) and Camden Spear (1) combined for four saves.
 
UNE visits Thomas on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m.
