BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Arianna Delli Carpini tallied a goal in each half to lead the Roger Williams University women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over the University of New England in a mutual Commonwealth Coast Conference opener Saturday afternoon (Sep. 21) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
Delli Carpini gave the Hawks (4-4-0, 1-0-0 CCC) a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute, converting a rebound off her own penalty kick that was initially saved by UNE goalkeeper
Jenna Pannone. She would add her second tally of the afternoon in the final minute to dash any UNE hopes of knotting the score.
The Hawks won for the third consecutive time despite the Nor'easters holding a 13-7 advantage in shots. Goalkeeper Morgan Strassburg was credited with 10 saves to earn the shutout.
For UNE (3-1-2, 0-1-0), Pannone registered a pair of stops.
The Nor'easters return to action Wednesday when they host Bowdoin College in non-league action at 7 p.m.
