Three first-half scores push UNE past UMaine Farmington, 3-1

FARMINGTON, Maine – The University of New England men's soccer team won its second-straight game on Tuesday afternoon, 3-1, on the road at UMaine Farmington. The Nor'easters improve to 3-2-1 on the year.
 
UNE took an early lead in the 5th minute as Daniel Smushkin put in his first goal of the year off an assist from Lee Esposito. Brendan Crichton extended the advantage with a score in the 25th minute. Colby Obrecht added the helper to put the Nor'easters in front 2-0. He added a goal of his own in the 34th minute to give UNE a 3-0 cushion at the half.
 
Sawyer Deroche scored off a pass from Derek McLaughlin in the 83rd minute for the Beavers' only point of the day.
 
Camden Spear played the first half in net for UNE and stopped the only shot he faced. Ethan Dispoto made his first appearance and had three saves. Bradley Neal turned away four shots for UMaine Farmington. The Nor'easters outshot the hosts 14-9 on the afternoon.
 
UNE returns home to open Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday (Sept. 21) against Roger Williams at 2:30 p.m.
