GORHAM, Maine – The University of New England men's soccer team defeated the University of Southern Maine, 1-0, on the road Saturday afternoon to improve to 2-2-1 on the year. The Huskies fall to 0-5-2 with the loss.
After a scoreless first half that saw each team take six shots,
Callum Heaslewood headed in a far-post cross from
Lee Esposito in the 63
rd minute to give UNE the lead for good. The Nor'easters out-shot the Huskies 8-5 in the second half.
Camden Spear turned away the only shot he saw on the day to earn the clean sheet. Cameron Atherton had four saves for USM.
UNE closes its four-game road trip on Tuesday (Sept. 17) at UMaine Farmington at 4 p.m.
