Three second-half strikes power UNE past Berry, 4-2

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England women's soccer team scored three times in the second half on its way to a 4-2 victory over Berry College on Sunday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
 
Katie Beaudoin put home a cross off the foot of Caroline Wilson in the 11th minute to put the Nor'easters ahead 1-0 [Watch]. The Vikings tied the score late in the opening half as Kirbi Mathews corralled a long free kick from Vanessa Belanger and sent it in for the goal.
 
The Nor'easters put the game away with three goals over a span of 2:52 in the second half. Beaudoin hit Ashley Sherman on a breakaway in the 65th minute to break the tie [Watch]. Just 39 seconds later, Beaudoin snuck a pass from the left side through to Alyssa Boilard for a score to extend the UNE advantage to 3-1. [Watch]
 
Marie Hoehner tallied the first goal of her young career on a shot from the top of the box in the 68th minute to put the game out of reach [Watch]. Maria Walsh added a score for Berry in the 81st minute.
 
Shots were even at 16 each on the afternoon, but the Nor'easters led 13-8 in attempts on goal.
 
Alyssa Stevens started for the Vikings in net and made four saves. Maggie Jones stopped five in the second half. Jenna Pannone earned the victory in goal with four saves. Mackenzie Gilmore had two stops over the final 12:54.
 
UNE continues its three-game homestand on Saturday against Westfield State at 4 p.m.
