BEVERLY, Mass. -- Behind five runs during the 2nd and 3rd innings, second-seeded University of New England upended No.1 Endicott College by a 6-2 margin in Game 10 of the 2019 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Softball Championship on Friday afternoon (May 3) at the EC Softball Complex.

The Nor'easters (26-14) will enter Saturday's action back at Endicott as the only squad without a loss in the double elimination tournament. UNE is slated for the second of two games on the schedule (approximately 1:45 p.m.), awaiting the winner between the Gulls and fourth-seeded Salve Regina University [Interactive Bracket].

The result brought an end to the 18-game winning streak of Endicott (29-5), and marked the first setback against a CCC foe in 2019, following an unblemished regular-season campaign.

After hits by Gina DeMilt (CCC 1st Team) and Lauren Misiaszek (CCC 2nd Team) netted one run for the Gulls in the bottom of the 1st, the Nor'easters bounced right back with a pair in their next chance. Sarah Lachapelle worked a one-out walk and Anna Sessa subsequently doubled, before a two-out infield single by Alexis Kapsambelis (CCC 1st Team) tied the score. Sessa then came home during a throw attempting the catch Kapsambelis stealing.

Although the hosts tied things at 2-all in the last half of the 2nd with doubles by Carly Marchitto and Olivia Odermatt, UNE wasted little time snatching the lead for good in the 3rd. Caroline Schoenbucher started the frame with a double and scored with a single by Taylor Depot (CCC 3rd Team). Andrea Gosper (CCC 3rd Team) drew a free pass and then Lachapelle ripped a two-run double to stake the visitors to a 5-2 cushion.

Sydnee Bessler (CCC 1st Team) shut down Endicott from the circle the rest of the way, surrendering just two more hits among the final 15 outs. She fanned four and walked one in her 13th victory for UNE.

Avery Alberghini (CCC Player of the Year / 1st Team) topped the Nor'easters with three hits, and Schoenbucher tallied two. Lachapelle matched that by adding an RBI-single in the 7th to boost the lead, plating Depot for a second time.

The season win total is now UNE's highest since the 27 posted in 2012 -- the last time the Nor'easters claimed the league crown.

Taking the pitching loss for the Gulls was Laura Somerville (CCC 2nd Team), who lasted two batters into the 3rd inning. Misiaszek notched two of the team's six hits.
