Zadworny Record-Breaking Goal
BIDDEFORD, Maine – Roger Williams University picked up a 17-12 victory over the University of New England in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.
Alex Zadworny scored a season-best six goals to surpass Tyler Thomas '13 as the Nor'easters' career leader in goals scored with 143. He hit the milestone (138) at the 10:30 mark of the first quarter to put UNE in front 2-1. Following a score by RWU's Jared Grier,
Garett Bozek found Zadworny with a man-up to put the Nor'easters ahead 3-2 after a quarter.
The teams traded off goals to start the second quarter.
Zach Bossi and
Mitch Mullin provided the scoring the UNE. The Hawks shut down the Nor'easters the rest of the half, scoring the final three goals to take a 7-5 lead into the break.
Grier put in his second of the afternoon to start the third, but Bozak and Zadworny answered back as the Nor'easters pulled within one at 8-7 with 10:29 remaining the quarter. Roger Williams controlled play from there, leading by as many as seven down the stretch.
Weston Nolan earned the victory between the pipes with nine saves for the Hawks (9-4, 3-1 CCC).
Sam MacKenzie stopped seven shots for UNE (5-7, 0-3 CCC).
Bova led Roger Williams with six goals while Grier added four to go with three ground balls and a caused turnover.
Adam Race and
Jared Duffy picked up five ground balls each for UNE; Race also added a game-high three caused turnovers.
The Nor'easters return to the field on Wednesday (April 10) at Curry at 7 p.m.
