Nor'easters hang on to top Gordon, 16-15

WENHAM, Mass.
– The University of New England men's lacrosse team picked up a 16-15 victory over Gordon College on Wednesday night in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Brigham Complex.
 
Mitch Mullin scored five goals and dished out two assists in the triumph. Garett Bozek added four goals and two helpers for the Nor'easters, who improve to 7-8 overall and 2-4 in CCC play with two games remaining.
 
After a goal by Mullin to start the game, Gordon (3-10, 0-7 CCC) scored the next four and remained in front throughout the first half. The Scots held a 7-6 lead at the break.
 
The Nor'easters took control in the third quarter, outscoring the hosts 7-2 in the frame. Zach Bossi scored all three of his goals in the period. UNE held a 13-9 advantage heading into the fourth.
 
Gordon put up a fight in the final period, closing the gap to just one with 46 seconds left, but a save by Sam MacKenzie with eight ticks left secured the UNE victory. MacKenzie made 17 stops for the match.
 
Jacob Hryzan paced the Fighting Scots with six goals. Dan Arthur added three goals, and Jay Gallipo had 14 saves in the loss.
 
UNE visits Nichols College on Saturday in its final road game of the season. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
