BIDDEFORD, Maine – Plymouth State University blocked a game-tying shot attempt in the final seconds to escape with a 12-11 result against the University of New England in men's lacrosse action on Thursday afternoon at UNE Blue Bolt Field.
The Panthers (1-0) broke away from a 9-9 tie and built a three-goal cushion with 5:22 to play, but the Nor'easters (1-2) managed to get one back at the 1:51 mark when

Noah Luccini for a tally. Following a PSU turnover, Luccini fed
Garett Bozek to bring the hosts closer with 47 seconds remaining. An errant pass by the Panthers late gave UNE 15 ticks for one last push up the field.
Chase Mercier, Connor Delea, and Casey Elkins each had three goals for Plymouth State. Mercier also added three assists. Zel Kerkel made 16 saves.
Bozek led the UNE offense with four goals and an assist, and
Mitch Mullin had three scores. Luccini finished with two goals and a pair of helpers.
Adam Race notched a game-high eight ground balls, while
Jared Duffy,
Spencer Hokanson, and
Sam Sahl combined for 20-of-27 face-off wins.
Sam MacKenzie had 13 stops for the hosts.
The Nor'easters took an early 2-0 lead, but quickly fell behind 5-3 after a quarter. Plymouth State maintained an advantage of as many as three until Mullin knotted the score (8-8) with the home team's lone marker of the third period.
UNE begins five straight road games with a trip to MIT on Saturday.
