SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Western New England men's lacrosse team outscored the University of New England 12-2 in the first half on its way to a 14-10 victory in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action on Saturday afternoon in Springfield.
Following a tough first half the Nor'easters (5-5, 0-1 CCC) dominated second half play, outscoring the Golden Bears 8-2 and holding a 26-13 advantage in shots.
Western New England (6-3, 3-0 CCC) opened the game scoring the first eight goals, including three by John Shahpazian, who finished with four on the day.
Garett Bozek and
Zach Bossi each scored in the first half for UNE, which trailed 12-2 at the break.
Following a Jared Ward goal to begin the second half, the Nor'easters would allow just one more WNEU score the rest of the way.
Mitch Mullin tallied all three of his goals in the second half.
Alex Zadworny and Bozek each contributed two scores in the comeback effort.
Sean McCusker made 10 saves to help Western New England hold on for the victory.
Sam MacKenzie had 18 stops for UNE in the loss. The Golden Bears outshot UNE 35-9 over the first 30 minutes and 48-35 overall.
The Nor'easters return to UNE Blue Bolt Field on Tuesday evening against Wentworth at 7 p.m.
