EDWARDSVILLE, Pa. – The University of New England staved off a fourth-quarter comeback to defeat Wilkes, 14-12, in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schmidt Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Wilkes cut a 14-7 deficit to just two with 7:12 to play in the game. John Wink and Connor Daly each scored twice as part of the comeback.
Sam MacKenzie made five saves and forced a turnover late to help UNE hold on for the victory.
Alex Zadworny scored two of his game-high five goals during a four-point spurt for the Nor'easters during the second quarter, opening a 7-2 advantage. The Colonels pulled within three at the half. UNE scored six in the third to build its largest lead heading into the final quarter.
Wilkes out-shot the Nor'easters 49-42 on the day, including an 18-2 in the fourth.
Adam Race picked up a season-best nine groundballs as UNE led 50-49 in the category.

Garett Bozek each scored twice, while Bozek also added four assists. Wink had five goals and two assists to pace Wilkes.
MacKenzie made 20 saves for the Nor'easters on the afternoon. Carter Whittemore stopped 11 shots to lead the Colonels.
UNE visits Bryn Athyn on Saturday at 11 a.m.
