#10 Nor’easters skate through Western New England, 6-1

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Austin Morgan and Jake Fuss each scored two goal to help lead #10 University of New England past Western New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey tilt Saturday evening at the Olympia Ice Center.
 
Fuss started the scoring for the Nor'easters (9-2-0, 7-1-0 CCC) with a goal off a pass from Alex Sheehy at the 13:26 mark of the first period. Morgan added an unassisted power play score as UNE led 2-0 after a frame.
 
The Nor'easters pulled away in the second with two more goals. Morgan found Jared Christy for a goal midway through the stanza. Derek Mecrones scored his first of the season with just over a minute remaining.
 
Morgan recorded his second of the night to start the third period. Evan Lindquist ended the shutout as he got the Golden Bears (3-6-1, 1-5-1 CCC) on the board with a power play goal with 5:22 left. Fuss added a late short-hand goal for UNE.
 
Ben Chuchfield stopped 21 shots in the win. Kyle Carducci had 50 saves for Western New England.
 
The Nor'easters are off until Jan. 3 when they will play #13 Williams in the Pathfinder Bank Hockey Classic hosted by SUNY Oswego.
