BEVERLY, Mass. -- Keith Brown registered a double-double of 29 points and 14 rebounds to pace Endicott College in an 87-79 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball result versus the University of New England on Wednesday evening (Dec. 4) at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Brown tallied 20 of his points in the 2nd half for the Gulls (4-3, 1-0 CCC). Matt McDevitt had 14 of his 18 points in the opening frame, and also reached double digits in rebounds with 10. Billy Arsenault and Louis Ellis both added nine points; Arsenault dished out six assists, too.
Endicott overcame 29 percent shooting during the initial period by out-scoring UNE by 13 at the line (15-2), but finished strong by connecting at a 56 percent clip after the break. The hosts were +20 at the charity stripe (29-9) in the contest.
For the Nor'easters (5-4, 0-2 CCC),
Alex Kravchuk dropped 22 points after halftime and ended with 26 to go with 13 boards.
Drake Gavin contributed 15 points and six caroms, and
Jesse Matthews notched 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting before fouling out.
Avery DeBrito scored all but one of his 11 points following intermission, and recorded seven assists as well as six rebounds.
Kravchuk and Gavin both canned four treys for UNE, which was +18 from scoring behind the arc in the game.
The Gulls held 1st-half leads as high as seven on either side of the lone advantage for the Nor'easters (16-15), and settled on a 38-32 edge at the break. Endicott grew the cushion to 12 (60-48) with 13:30 remaining, only to see UNE twice close back within five (68-63, 74-69).
The Nor'easters return home to face Salve Regina University on Saturday (3 p.m.).
