BOSTON -- The University of New England went on a 21-1 second-half run to distance itself from Wentworth Institute of Technology en route to an 81-45 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's basketball victory on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23) at Tansey Gymnasium.
Jocelyn Chaput paced the Nor'easters (5-1, 1-0 CCC) at 20 points -- which included 5-of-8 shooting from downtown -- along with six assists and five rebounds.
Abby Cavallaro went for 14 points, 10 rebounds, six steals, and five assists. Both
Sadie Nelson and
Madalyn Sanborn supported with 12 points; Nelson also secured a game-best 11 boards, while Sanborn controlled five rebounds and dished out four helpers.
UNE had a 50-34 advantage on the glass, and held the Leopards to 31 percent shooting. The Nor'easters also converted 20 WIT turnovers into 27 points.
Isabella Perez was the lone player from Wentworth (3-2, 0-1 CCC) to reach double figures with 13 points.
The visitors led the entire way, other than a tie at 6-all. The gap extended to 22-12 and shifted between 14 (34-20) and seven (39-32) before UNE began to stretch the margin in the latter stages of the 3rd quarter.
The Nor'easters are slated to visit No.5 Bowdoin College on Tuesday.
