Nor’easters get past Huskies, 2-1

GORHAM, Maine – The University of New England scored twice in the first half and held on for a 2-1 victory over Southern Maine on Tuesday evening at Hannaford Field in Gorham.
 
Jessie Maywalt quickly put the Nor'easters on the board with a strike in the 7th minute. Ashley Sherman assisted on the early goal. Maywalt found Katie Beaudoin for a score in the 32nd minute as UNE led 2-0 heading into halftime.
 
Ciera Berthiume ended the shutout with her fifth goal of the season in the 85th minute.
 
Shots were close with UNE holding a slim 17-16 advantage overall and 9-8 on goal. Jenna Pannone had seven stops for the Nor'easters. Kayla Gorman made six saves in the losing effort.
 
UNE returns to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Salve Regina at 12 p.m.
