BIDDEFORD, Maine – The University of New England men's soccer team tied with Colby 2-2 in non-conference action at Barbara J. Hazard Field on Tuesday night.
Callum Heaslewood provided all the scoring for the Nor'easters. He gave UNE a lead in the 36
th minute as his blast from outside the box rolled through the fingers of the Colby keeper in the far corner. The Mules would answer back before half as a long cross from Jack Moore found the head of Jared Wood on the far post in the 44
th minute.
A handball in the box led to a penalty kick goal by Heaslewood in the 52
nd minute to put UNE back in front 2-1. Another long cross to the far post knotted the game once again in the 54
th minute, this time Dexter Kalderon converted off a pass from Conor Larkin.
Each team had multiple chances in overtime.
Will Shearon was able to keep the Mules off the board in the extra period with three close-range saves in the first extra period. He finished with 11 stops on the night. Matt Morin had four stops for Colby who outshot UNE 23-14 overall.
The Nor'easters return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. against Salve Regina at Toppa Field in Newport, R.I.
