MILTON, Mass. -- The University of New England won 10 of the final 13 points to secure a 3-2 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's volleyball victory (25-18, 20-25, 23-25, 25-18, 15-10) over Curry College on Tuesday evening (Oct. 22) at Katz Gymnasium.
Katie Flynn and
Paige Simoneau combined for seven kills to pace the Nor'easters in the 4th set, after falling behind 2-1 in the match. UNE gained control of the frame with five unanswered points at 4-4.
Simoneau put down three more during the deciding run in the ultimate session. The visitors also benefited from three service errors by the Colonels down the stretch -- CC dropped 17 points from its serve on the night.
The Nor'easters (15-3, 4-1 CCC) received a career-high 17 winners out of Simoneau, who also reached double digits in digs with 10.
Stephanie Erickson and Flynn added 13 and 11 kills, respectively, while Flynn and
Katie Marsh combined for 23 digs along the back line.
Sydney Christiansen and
Molly Camelo both posted seven kills to go with 16 digs; Christiansen contributed 41 assists to the attacking efforts.
For Curry (13-10, 0-5 CCC), Lexi Pereira racked up 24 kills as well as 14 digs and Amanda Wood went for 14 and 10 in the same categories. Rachel Damstra and Brooke Reissfelder helped the offensive with 27 and 14 assists, respectively. Damstra had six service aces, and five more came from Lex Bell, who pulled up 25 digs.
UNE heads for Salve Regina University (3-3 CCC) on Saturday.
