Nor'easters sweep Husson to go 14-2

Statistics

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Stephanie Erickson notched 12 kills to pace the University of New England in a 3-0 victory (25-19, 25-18, 25-18) over Husson University in a women's volleyball contest Wednesday evening (Oct. 16) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Nor'easters (14-2) received another seven winners from both Katie Flynn and Molly Camelo. Camelo and Sydney Christiansen topped the squad with 10 digs apiece, and Christiansen supported the attack with 30 assists.

For the Eagles (4-19), Mary Grace Power recorded nine kills to go with 11 digs. Adrienne Beatty had a match-best 13 digs along the back line, and Amber Lemay added 10 more. Hanna Hembrow tallied 19 assists.

Husson took four of the first five points on the night, but fell behind for good at 7-6. Things were still close (16-14) until a pair of errors by the visitors and two kills from Camelo established enough separation to decide the 1st set.

The seventh tie of the 2nd frame came at 8-all, before the Eagles snagged a 14-9 cushion. However, an 8-0 spurt by UNE -- with three kills by Flynn -- flipped the momentum, and the hosts claimed seven of the final eight points to secure a commanding two-set lead. Erickson had three winners down the stretch.

Aside from being even at 1-1 in the 3rd, the Nor'easters held the edge. After the margin grew as high as nine (14-5, 15-6), Husson could only get as close as four the rest of the way.

UNE will travel to Emerson College on Saturday for its last non-league outing, prior to the last four Commonwealth Coast Conference matches.
