Golden Bears top UNE in CCC action

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Western New England University made 61.6 percent of its field goal attempts in a 132-94 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball result versus the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 5) at the Alumni Healthful Living Center.

The Golden Bears (4-9, 1-4 CCC) had five players in double figures, led by Alex Sikorski's 27-point, eight-rebound performance. Mikey Pettway did a little of everything, finishing with 25 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. After Sikorski's six treys, Mike McGuire hit five triples to add 19 points, and Kenny Flynn contributed 18 more. Zachary Tivitian had 12 points.

For the Nor'easters (3-10, 1-3 CCC), Alex Kravchuk dropped in 23 points. DeMarquez Hadnot totaled 15 points, while Daron Hoges, Jr. and Avery DeBrito each registered 10. Drew Patno secured a game-high 11 rebounds, although the hosts posted a 44-35 edge on the glass.

Western New England never trailed in the match after notching the first six points, and started to break away (51-32) down the stretch in the 1st half with a 17-2 run in three minutes. The difference was 16 (64-48) at intermission.

UNE returns to its home court on Tuesday (7:30 pm) to face Salve Regina University (2-2 CCC).
