Gordon tops UNE with big run

WENHAM, Mass. -- Gordon College bounced back from an early eight-point deficit with a 30-5 spurt on the way to a 100-71 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball decision versus the University of New England on Tuesday night (Jan. 22) at the Bennett Center.

After having their 17-game unbeaten streak snapped in the last outing, the Fighting Scots (17-2, 9-1 CCC) bounced back behind a game-high 16 points from Parker Omslaer, who also grabbed eight rebounds. Noah Szilagyi recorded 12 of his 14 points before the intermission, and Avelino Damoura supported with 13 more. In addition to 11 points and three blocks, Garrisson Duvivier hauled in 15 boards to help the hosts establish a 58-48 rebounding advantage.

Gordon knocked down 25-of-37 two-point field goals in the contest, and out-scored the visitors by 24 points (29-5) at the line.

For the Nor'easters (5-14, 3-7 CCC), Anthony Moynihan tossed in 15 points to go with a team-best seven caroms and three steals. After the 11 points from Ryan Beatty, Alex Kravchuk and DeMarquez Hadnot chipped in with nine points apiece.

UNE surged out to an 8-0 lead but found itself down, 30-13, with a little over eight minute to play in the opening stanza. An 11-2 closing run by the Fighting Scots brought the spread up to 55-28, with GC shooting 61 percent from the floor (19-for-31) and the Nor'easters making just 27 percent (11-of-41) of their tries.

Big Blue returns home to face Western New England University (4-6 CCC) on Saturday.
