DUDLEY, Mass. -- Nichols College utilized a 19-2 spurt in the opening period to distance itself from the University of New England in a 107-80 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball result on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 12) at the NC Athletic Center.
DeAnte Bruton notched 16 of his game-high 22 points following halftime to lead the Bison (14-2, 6-1 CCC). Marcos Echevarria drained five three-pointers to total 21 points, and added six assists and five steals. Jaekwon Spencer chipped in with 13 points, while Matt Morrow recorded a double-double of 12 points with 16 rebounds.
Spencer scored 11 before the break for Nichols, including seven as the hosts stretched the advantage to 46-27 and did not miss a shot in the process (3:36). The Bison were up 55-37 at intermission, hitting eight more field goals (22) in the same number of attempts as the Nor'easters (14-for-38).
Pacing UNE (5-11, 3-4 CCC) was
Daron Hoges, Jr. with 13 points, 11 of which went through in the 1st half.
Alex Kravchuk registered nine points, and
Jackson McCoy posted seven points with 10 rebounds.
The Nor'easters return home to face Endicott College (4-3 CCC) on Wednesday night.
