WESTFIELD, Mass. – A second-half goal by
Vanessa Hodge helped the University of New England women's soccer team to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Westfield State University on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Nor'easters (0-2-1) came out firing in the first half with 11 shots, including seven on goal, but were unable to break through. Midway through the period Madison Dufries struck first to put the Owls (1-2-1) in front. In the 53rd minute,
Avery Bond found Hodge for the tying goal. Neither team could break the deadlock in regulation or in overtime despite numerous chances.
Emily Ashman made a season-best 10 saves on the day, while Brianna Hawley totaled 13 stops for Westfield. Shots were even on both sides at 21 each, while UNE held a slim 14-11 advantage on goal.
The Nor'easters return home on Wednesday night against the University of Maine-Farmington. Game time at Barbara J. Hazard Field is set for 6 p.m.
