Corsairs overcome slow start to edge UNE

DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Nicole Silverman posted a double-double of 13 kills and 15 digs to lead the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth rally in a 3-1 women's volleyball decision (16-25, 25-23, 26-24, 25-11) over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Sep. 29) at the Tripp Athletic Center.

The Corsairs (6-8) dropped the opening set by relinquishing nine unanswered points to the Nor'easters (4-11) from 14-all, but battled to the narrowest of wins in the 2nd and 3rd. The hosts then put things away in the 4th with a 17-2 run.

Amanda LaCroix supported UMD with seven kills, five service aces, and 19 digs, while Kristy Walton tacked on another seven winners. Riley Thomas put up 22 assists and nine digs; Jillian Sykora pulled up 21 digs.

For UNE, Rene Roggenbuck registered 14 kills and factored in five blocks (2 solo). Defensively, Katie Marsh totaled 20 digs and had a team-high three aces. Sydney Christiansen notched 23 assists for the attack, which got five kills out of Katie Flynn.

The Nor'easters travel to Bates College on Tuesday (6 p.m.).
